My K-Drama List (2024) - Part 4
I did it! I had refrained from watching any K-drama during Ramadan. Talk about self restraint... Anyway, the fasting month went by so quickly. Eid came and a flurry of activities followed: lots of visitors to the museum (school students and Guides from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand). I also had to entertain guests who came to visit my sick dad. And my lecturing semester started again to much delight. I enjoy teaching and who knows, perhaps I could continue teaching in Seoul if I ever pursue PhD there. Talking of PhD, I revisited the idea of doing it in Singapore since I can't travel much due to my caregiving duties to my dad. Hmmm... decisions, decisions. But, let's restart my K-Drama session...10. Parasyte: The Grey 기생수: 더 그레이 -- Coz I don't like watching rom-com. Yep, going back to my K-drama roots of zombies and the likes. Parasyte is based on a manga series "Kiseiju" by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Delighted to see Koo Kyo-Hwan from D.P. I think he was being himself; and not acting.
11. Ajooma 아줌마 (film) -- This film is technically not a Korean film, but more of the misadventures of a K-drama obsessed Singaporean aunty who went to Korea on a K-dramas sightseeing trail. Did she get to meet Jin Goo (her favourite actor, and mine too in 'Hotel Del Luna' and 'Beyond Evil')?
12. The 8 Show 더 에이트 쇼 -- I was initially sceptical about this drama. Seems like another Squid Game. Financially desperate 8 individuals were to stay in a studio of concrete walls. If they were able to remain there for 100 days, they could share the winning prize of 44.8 billion won. In my opinion, this drama is like a sociological study on relationship between human behaviour and power. So interesting! My favourite 'Reply 1988' character (Ryu Jun-Yeol who acted as Jung-Hwan) is 3rd floor while the horrendous tug 6th floor actor was the monk in 'My Mister'.
13. Catching a Killer: The Hwaseong Murders -- Although this is not a kdrama, the two-part documentary (in Korean) by Channel NewsAsia gave an inside story of the investigation (botched) resulting in the imprisonment of an innocent person.
