Nami Island, my 'Faraway Tree'
Nature, books, artistic works, animals, sporting activities, quaint cafes, halal food, musollah, serenity, warm hospitality and gorgeous foliage. You’re ‘My Faraway Tree’.
I was fortunate to have met the grandchildren of the Sujae Minn Byeong Do who purchased the island in 1965. The Minn brothers now run the private island and uphold the vision of Grandfather Minn who transformed the once wasteland into a magical island of nature, art and books and dreams.
Many have heard of Nami Island as a location set for the 2001 KBS television series ‘Winter Sonata’ (Hidayah said she did not watch the series). Not many people know that Nami Island has sponsored international institutions such as UNICEF and UNESCO, and has provided opportunities for artists in various fields. Nami Island also organised the Nami Concours. We (Helang Books) are delighted to have contributed all our children’s books to the UNICEF Lounge (International Children’s Library). We hope that visitors to Nami Island will drop by the Lounge and read our books!
So proud of Kyung Hyuk Kenny Minn and his brothers for upholding the legacy of 민 할아버지. The Minn family inspires me!
