My K-Drama List (2024) - Part 6
19. Reply 1994 응답하라 1994 -- I enjoyed watching Reply 1988 tremendously. So I thought perhaps I should watch the rest in this series. 1994 is quite slow-moving but I could relate to the characters studying in university of that era. My favourite Dong-Mae from 'Mr Sunshine' acted as Yonsei University's baseball pitcher... homerun! As if rubbing salt on my wounded heart, one of the characters is the top student in medical faculty of Yonsei; he is classmates with Sun-Woo (from Reply 1988). While Reply 1988 highlighted Seoul National University (SNU), Reply 1994 is all about Yonsei. My heart ached for Chilbong (played by Yeo Yeon Seok) whose good looks, kind personality, major baseball leaguer status couldn't win Na Jung, his first love. I am Team Chilbong just like I am Team Jung Hwan (Reply 1988). But this is life, n'est pas? Things don't always go our way.
*This song was played in the wintry background when Chilbong said goodbye to Na Jung before he left for Japan. My heart broke...
20. Reply 1997 응답하라 1997 -- I was sceptical at first; Reply 1994 broke my heart. I couldn't relate as much as I wasn't crazy about pop groups like Shiwon was. Of course, there had to be mentions of SNU Medical School. How ironic that our favourite intern-now-lawyer Nabilah also asked me about Harvard Medical School... a dream that I have abandoned. Aigoo...

21. Umma 엄마 -- Technically, this is not a Korean movie but about a Korean woman (acted by Sandra Oh who is ethnically Korean) who lived in rural farm and battling with memories of an abusive childhood inflicted by her mother. And yes, there were conversations in Korean!
22. Gyeongseong Creature 2 경성크리처2 -- The storyline was not as interesting as the first season. There might be a third one based on the ending. Sometimes, we should just have one good season and end it there.
