My K-Drama List (2024) - Part 9

32. Light Shop 조명가게 -- Cos I miss Korea. I was intrigued by the poster of actor Ju Ji-Hoon in his shades in the lighting shop. The series description depicts the genre as mystery. Reminds me of The Twilight Zone's 'Wong's Lost and Found Emporium'. Light Shop is off to a good start. Each storyline had an eerie feel but believable; they weaved into the main storyline seamlessly. I find myself reflecting on the theme of the series. Are we prepared for the afterlife?

33. Squid Game 2 오징어게임 시즌 2 -- Yes, they gave Gong Yoo a back story! Without giving out too much spoilers, he acted his character so well that I gasped at the ending of Episode 1. 아니요... I watched seven episodes in one sitting almost immediately when they were released. I even ate a dalgona candy! Honestly, I think Season 1 is better but I like the different games and backstories of the new characters. Can't wait for Season 3.

Afternote: After 'Train to Busan', 'Squid Game' re-ignited my interest in Gong Yoo and subsequently K-dramas. It introduced me to ‘Silenced’ 도가니 film initiated by Gong Yoo who persuaded Hwang Dong-hyuk (writer and director of Squid Game) to direct the film which caused South Korea to change its laws to better protect special needs children. 'Squid Game' is a social commentary of society. It is also the story of persistence, resilience and brilliance of Hwang Dong-hyuk who never gave up on his dreams. Truly inspiring. In this world of material/status obsession and fake wannabes, be a Gong Yoo or Dong-hyuk.

34. The Devil from Hell 지옥에서 온 판사 -- I thought after 'The Devil Judge', I should give this a shot. I didn't have much impression about 'The Devil Judge' but absolutely loved it. My student Xin Ru said that 'The Devil from Hell' has some supernatural elements, much like the TV series 'Lucifer'. So, I thought, why not?
