The Cure
"We are told that every illness has a cure. Everyone rushes to look for the Cure. But, are we already too late?"
Whilst in lockdown Abu Dhabi in March 2020, 9-year-old Nuha Zahra wrote a reflection on the COVID-19 pandemic. Voila! We published her chapbook in May 2020.
Illustrations are done by Jafri Janif and I did the book design. Proceeds from the sale of this book (SGD4,400) were donated to H.O.M.E (Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics) that supports migrant workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 6 November 2021, we conducted 'The Cure' Digital Storytelling session with about 24 pupils and 12 teachers from Lighthouse School. The kids were delighted to hear our author Nuha (in Abu Dhabi) read the story and talk about her experience writing 'The Cure'. Jafri spoke on what had inspired him to draw and the three things they should do if they want to be an artist: Be Brave, It's OK to fail (and learn from it) and Accept criticisms (to be better). The kids and Dr Yeo Sze Ling, our blind Math expert (Lighthouse School alumna) also shared what they had learned from COVID19 situation. At the end, we sang Nuha a birthday song as she has turned 10 the day before!
